ISC was created! We started with students from just six countries and we now have 20 different nationalities at ISC! The boarding houses were old fashioned with huge communal bathrooms and multi-bedded dorms.
ISC expanded and we had students from 10 European countries.
Haileybury had lots of refurbishment work done, making the boarding houses more comfortable for the students. A variety of different bedrooms were added and a new indoor swimming pool was installed, which was paid for by a donation from a kind parent. We also had our first non-European student groups from China and Japan.
In 2002 the school had grown so much, Martin took early retirement from his government job, completed his Celta and joined ISC full-time.
We had our first British Council inspection. We received an excellent report, even in our first year and we have improved every inspection since!
Al, our course director and Nic, our director of studies began working as teachers for ISC. Nine years later and they still love working at ISC!
Various developments had been made to the Haileybury campus, including the new student café, 6th form centre and great facilities for our activity programme.
Al became co-course director of ISC. Nic began working as senior teacher and studying towards her DELTA. By this time we had 20 different nationalities at ISC!
We received 9 areas of strengths in our British Council Inspection, meaning we’re in the top 20% of UK language schools! Nic passed her DELTA and became our director of studies.
We also began offering PET and FCE Cambridge exam courses with great success! Since ISC started we’ve had students from 22 countries come to study with us!
We celebrated our 20th anniversary in style with not one, but two birthday parties! We also had our highest number of nationalities to date, with wonderful students from a record 24 different countries!
